The LBCC Fish Fry was a huge success last night, over 400 hundred attended, setting their highest attendance record to date! One hundred percent of the funds collected will go to the conservation of Lake Buchanan. In this picture, well wishers were waving to the camera to say hello to Mike and Traci Rannefeld who couldn't make it this year due to his cancer treatments, they were sorely missed! Fredericksburg SHINES, a non-profit, invites everyone to attend a fall tour of homes to spotlight examples of sustainable-living practices in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.
Our mission is caring for the environment and educating the public about sustainability so that future generations in the Hill Country can enjoy it all.
Ten stops are on the tour scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sustainable practices to be showcased on the tour include solar applications for electricity generation, water heating, and solar tubes as interior light sources. For those interested in water applications, there will be examples of xeriscaping and rainwater collection systems. Compressed earth block, rammed earth, strawbale, and “cool roof” type constructed homes will be included on the tour. Zero waste applications, an electric vehicle charging station, and a Chevy Volt (or two) and Tesla will also be on display. Maps will be emailed to online ticket purchasers. Program booklets will be available at our base home, listed as home #1 on the map.
Tickets for the Sept. 20 event are $25 and will include a map and a description of what is available for viewing at each home. Tickets are available online at www.fbgshines.org

Llano River Eagles Update:
Our beloved eagles nest on Hwy 29 between Buchanan Dam and Llano has fallen. TPWD has informed us the tree was bug ridden and rotting and finally fell over. It will be very interesting to see where they will build next! If you remember the same thing happened just a few years ago and they only moved a few trees over; I hope that will be the case again. They are due to return between September and October this year and typically begin working on the nest right away. I will update again here and on facebook (facebook.com Buchanan inks chamber ) as soon as I hear that they have returned.
